HAMPI UTSAVA!!!

"Dhrushya" recently performed the play "Swapnavasavadatta" in Hampi.A packed crowd of more than thousand witnessed the classic imagination of Bhasa being put on stage.The show was appreciated by many theatre personalities who were present on the last day of the utsava that is on 29th of january 2010.

Swapnavasavadatta is a famous Sanskrit play written by Bhasa about 2000 years back and is translated to Kannada by Keertinatha Kurthukoti.

Bhasa in all his writings brings out relationship between Politics anf Family.In this play,Yougandharayana uses his political skills to save the kingdom by seperating King Udaya from his wife Vasavadatta.Here,Udayana's love towards Vasavadatta is clearly shown but the ploitical ideas behind their seperation is only witnessed at the end.

Dhrushya is a Bangalore based Kannada Theatre troupe run by Dakshayani Bhat,one of the leading Directors in Kannda Theatre.The troupe comprises of around 40 young artists of different backgrounds.Dhrushya is described as "An amateur troupe with a professional attitude towards theatre" in one of the famous Newspapers.

Under the direction of Dakshayani Bhat,the team has put together good productions like Gajipurada Hajama,Ploutos,Devara Hesaralli,Kamadhenu,Kambliseve and Swapnavasavadatta.The latest production being Varshageete directed by Mr.Joseph.
